Invisible Lines of Defense

With the outbreak of COVID-19, many peripheral neighborhoods of Tehran faced limited access to sanitation services and public health resources. In response, groups of local volunteers began disinfecting public spaces, streets, and homes using basic equipment and personal protective gear.

This photographic series documents the presence of these community volunteers in the margins of the city, where the boundary between formal responsibility and collective care becomes blurred. The images capture moments of their daily work as they move through narrow streets, enter residential spaces, and attempt to reduce the spread of the virus in underserved areas.

The project seeks to preserve a fragment of the visual memory of the pandemic—when small, local actions became part of a broader expression of social solidarity.
